Hazelnut is the perfect pairing to chocolate, giving a familiar and comforting flavour. For the best texture, melt the chocolate separately then whisk it in- it becomes thick and silken. If you don’t have time, you can add the chocolate to the mix whilst heating up, but for the full effect, it’s well worth the extra step.
Once you try this, no powdered hot chocolate mix will do again. Totally indulgent, sweet, creamy and spicy- well it is the season….
Serves 2 generously
500ml hazelnut milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anise
1 rounded tbsp granulated sugar
100g good quality dark chocolate, at least 70% cocoa solids
